|A False Image of God|
One of the most popular false gods in Old Testament times was Baal. Archaeologists have found rock carvings of him: a god holding a club in his right hand and a lightning flash with a spearhead in his left hand—not exactly a welcoming image. Perhaps that is why the prophets of Baal “slashed themselves with swords and spears” (1 Kings 18:28) as they danced frantically around the sacrifice trying to get him to answer their prayer.
Our image of God will determine how we approach Him.
