Hooked on Psychics

An article in body + soul magazine said thereís an addiction that deserves more attention: psychic addiction. Some people are hooked on psychic hotlines and online psychics.

Itís an expensive addiction. The article mentioned one woman who spent $6,715 last February alone after a breakup; another who was $13,000 in debt; another who had spent over half of her $500,000 inheritance on calls to psychics; and one who had refinanced her home twice to pay for her addiction.

The calls can cost up to $19.99 a minute. The author of the article, a "recovering" addict, found herself calling as many as 10 psychics in one day.

In addition to the financial costs, clients lose time as well as they put their lives on hold waiting for predictions to come true. And there is the emotional cost as hoped-for results donít materialize.

Suggested applications:

  • People are looking for guidance. But they are often looking in the wrong places. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you. - Psalm 32:8
  • Addictions come in all shapes and sizes. The Lord can set us free from them all. "So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." - John 8:36
  • Many people are unduly worried about the future. The Bible says we should let God do the "worrying" for us. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. - 1 Peter 5:7
